– Nikki Cross becomes the first female co-owner of PROGRESS and DEFY Wrestling
Nikki Cross and Big Damo are stepping into major ownership roles after acquiring PROGRESS Wrestling and DEFY Wrestling.
The announcement marks a major shift for the independent wrestling scene in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Cross, also known as Nikki Storm, and Damo, also known as Killian Dain, both built their names in the UK and Irish wrestling scene before reaching a larger audience in WWE.
Damo said he and Cross want PROGRESS to remain a strong platform for current stars and future talent. He also praised DEFY Wrestling’s Seattle fan base and said he has always had a strong connection with the promotion.
Cross said she understands the importance of becoming one of the few female owners in professional wrestling. She said she wants to use her experience to help elevate PROGRESS and DEFY, bringing a fresh perspective to both companies.
One major goal is the growth of women’s wrestling. Cross confirmed that PROGRESS plans to hold its first standalone women’s Super Strong Style 16 tournament in 2027.
PROGRESS has been a key part of British wrestling since 2012, helping showcase names such as Pete Dunne, Toni Storm, Gunther, and Will Ospreay. DEFY has also grown into one of the most recognized independent promotions in the United States.
Martyn Best and Lee McAteer praised the move and said the promotions are entering a new chapter with experienced leaders who understand the wrestling business. The first major shows under the new direction include Chapter 195: Wonderbrawl II in Manchester and Chapter 196: Scorchio! in London.
