Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo have lost their AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship titles. The duo, who are also wrestlers in AEW, were scheduled to defend their titles at AAA’s Noche De Campeones event on December 28 in a triple threat match against Komander and Sexy Star II and Octagon Jr. and Lady Shani.
However, during the event, Konnan announced that Guevara and Melo would not be able to defend their titles and would be stripped of them. Konnan cited various cancellations and demanding behavior from the couple, including requests for their own referee and personal stylist, as the reasons for vacating the titles.
Konnan also announced that Flammer and Abismo Negro Jr. would replace Guevara and Melo in the match they were supposed to defend and that the winners of that match would become the new mixed tag champions. Flammer and Negro Jr. ultimately emerged victorious and were crowned the new AAA Mixed Tag Champions. The actual championship belts were not present at the event, but Konnan stated before the match that he had “sent someone” to retrieve them.
Guevara and Melo’s reign as AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions lasted 243 days, beginning on April 30 at Triplemania XXX: Monterrey. Their championship win was surrounded by controversy on social media due to their relationship and Guevara’s TNT Championship feud with Scorpio Sky.
