Delayed Spinoff Arrives in March Before Season 2 Premieres on AMC

Summary

– The Walking Dead: Dead City will be available on Netflix US starting March 17, 2025.

– The first season was originally set for a January release but was delayed without explanation.

– Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on AMC and AMC+ in Spring 2025.

After months of uncertainty, the Walking Dead: Dead City is finally making its way to Netflix. Initially announced as part of AMC’s ongoing deal with the streamer, the spinoff was supposed to debut in January 2025 alongside The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. However, Dead City was missing from the lineup when the release date arrived without any explanation.

Now, fans won’t have to wait much longer, as Netflix will add the six-episode first season to its US catalog on March 17, 2025.

Dead City is the first direct sequel to The Walking Dead, picking up years after the original series’ conclusion. The story follows Maggie and Negan, longtime enemies forced to work together when Maggie’s son, Hershel, is kidnapped by a former member of Negan’s Saviors. The series shifts the setting to post-apocalyptic Manhattan, introducing new threats and alliances.

The first season featured a mix of familiar and new faces, including Lauren Cohan as Maggie, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, Željko Ivanek as The Croat, and Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong. Other cast members include Mahina Napoleon, Karina Ortiz, Jonathan Higginbotham, Michael Anthony, and Lisa Emery.

The Netflix release will lead to Dead City’s second season, set to debut on AMC and AMC+ in Spring 2025. The upcoming season will see major shifts for Negan as he begins reverting to his old ways, setting up a high-stakes story continuation.

Dead City joins other Walking Dead Universe series on Netflix, including all eleven seasons of The Walking Dead, all eight seasons of Fear the Walking Dead, The Ones Who Live, and the first season of Daryl Dixon. Fans now have more ways than ever to dive into the expanding universe of the franchise.
