Kim Coates, best known for his role in Sons of Anarchy, is stepping into The Walking Dead: Dead City for its second season. Coates will portray Bruegel, a villain created specifically for him by showrunner Eli Jorné.
In an interview with MovieWeb, Coates described Bruegel as a “super smart, billionaire bad guy” who thrived during the zombie apocalypse. Living in an opulent enclave before emerging into a chaotic Manhattan, Bruegel assembled his gang and claimed his territory in the city. Coates added, “There are three or four gangs in Season 2, and Bruegel is my name. I’m certainly the biggest gang member of my squad. I kill a lot of zombies.”
The second season of Dead City sees Maggie and Negan on opposing sides of a growing war for control of Manhattan. The storyline explores the complexities of survival in a city overrun by the undead and splintered power factions. Returning cast members include Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Gaius Charles, and Željko Ivanek, while Dascha Polanco, Keir Gilchrist, Jake Weary, and Pooya Mohseni join as new characters.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan, also teased the return of Negan’s iconic weapon, Lucille. Morgan said about her return, “The second she’s back in Negan’s hands, he is empowered in a way that he hasn’t been in the last few years.”
With Kim Coates adding a new layer of menace and intrigue, Season 2 promises to delve deeper into the fractured landscape of post-apocalyptic Manhattan. The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 is set to premiere later this year.
