WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin is synonymous with beer, a staple of his larger-than-life persona. Recently, Austin shared a personal story with Wrestling Rambles, revealing why he prefers alcohol over marijuana despite trying the latter during his post-wrestling days.
Austin described a road trip between Los Angeles and his Broken Skull Ranch, often passing through the Sierra Blanca checkpoint in West Texas. Known for catching travelers with drugs, the checkpoint made Austin nervous during a camping trip when he carried a medicinal marijuana joint.
The joint, stored in a prescription bottle in his RV bathroom, filled the camper with its strong scent. As Austin approached the checkpoint, anxiety took over. Recognized by the guards, he managed to pass through without incident. “I breathed the biggest sigh of relief,” Austin said, recalling the moment.
Later that evening, Austin decided to try the joint in Van Horn, Texas. After three hits, he felt a slight buzz but didn’t enjoy the experience. Laughing, he asked his wife for a martini instead, realizing that marijuana wasn’t his thing.
Austin said he respects others’ preferences but sticks to his favorites—beer, margaritas, and vodka. For him, alcohol remains an essential part of his identity, both as a wrestler and as a person.
