WWE Returns to Tropicana Field: This Time, With Fans Cheering On!
In a thrilling announcement for wrestling enthusiasts, WWE has confirmed its return to Tropicana Field for the Royal Rumble 2024. Unlike the previous event held amidst the pandemic, this time the iconic venue will echo with the cheers and chants of live fans.
Slated for Saturday, January 27, the Royal Rumble is all set to light up the Tampa Bay area. This isn’t Tropicana Field’s first rendezvous with WWE. The venue had previously hosted the WWE ThunderDome during the pandemic era, including the 2021 Royal Rumble. However, that event had a distinct ambiance, taking place without the presence of fans.
This grand return of the Royal Rumble to Tropicana Field is the result of a collaborative effort between WWE, the Tampa Bay Rays, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. Tropicana Field, primarily recognized as a Major League Baseball park, proudly stands as the home ground for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Historically, the last time Tampa witnessed the Royal Rumble magic was way back in 1995. The 2024 event, therefore, promises to be a nostalgic yet fresh experience for fans both old and new.
For those eager to secure their spots, details regarding Royal Rumble ticket sales will be unveiled in the upcoming weeks. WWE has also initiated a mailing list for fans keen on accessing the ticket pre-sale.
But the excitement doesn’t end with the Royal Rumble. WWE has planned “an entire weekend of events across St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa.” This includes the Monday, January 29 episode of Raw, which will be hosted at Tampa’s Amalie Arena.
John Porco, WWE Executive Vice President of Live Events, expressed his enthusiasm in a press release, stating, “Tampa Bay has long been a terrific market for WWE. Thanks to our partners, we look forward to a fantastic schedule of events in January.”
The Royal Rumble 2024 is not just another event; it marks the commencement of the journey to WrestleMania 40. The winners of the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches will earn the opportunity to challenge for titles at WrestleMania 40, scheduled to be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia the following April.
