Punk promises to confront the NXT Champion on Wednesday
Summary
– CM Punk announced he is coming after NXT Champion Grayson Waller
– Waller retained his title against Tony D’Angelo with help from a crowbar
– Punk’s appearance followed the Halloween Havoc main event on October 31
CM Punk has set his sights on Grayson Waller. After Waller retained the NXT Championship at Halloween Havoc, Punk appeared on the video screen and announced he would come after the champion on Wednesday’s NXT.
Waller had just defeated Tony D’Angelo in a hard-fought main event. The challenger pushed him through a fight that spilled outside the ring, including a rolling cutter through the announce table and a spear that nearly ended Waller’s title reign.
The match took a controversial turn when the referee was knocked down. Waller used the opening to grab a crowbar and strike D’Angelo before hitting his slingshot rolling cutter for the pin.
Danhausen appeared after the bell and told Waller not to celebrate too soon. Punk then appeared on the screen, saying he had heard Waller running his mouth and that he was coming for him on Wednesday. Punk also answered Waller’s claim that NXT was his house, calling himself the landlord and saying the rent was due.
Punk did not formally announce a championship match, but his message set up a confrontation with the NXT Champion. The November 4 episode is also scheduled to feature John Cena and Cody Rhodes. Rhodes is set to present the Dusty Cup after the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic final.
The special Wednesday broadcast will go head-to-head with AEW Dynamite’s Blood & Guts event. NXT moved from its usual Tuesday slot because of election coverage.
