Road Dogg Reflects on the NWO’s WWE Stint

The Intricacies of Wrestling Politics and Creative Choices

In a recent episode of the “Oh…You Didn’t Know” podcast, ‘Road Dogg’ Brian James, alongside Matt ‘The Casio Kid’ Mitchell, delved into the complexities of wrestling storylines, particularly focusing on the NWO’s run in WWE in 2002.

A fan posed a question about the NWO’s revival in WWE, which many felt didn’t live up to expectations. The fan wondered what could have been done differently to make the NWO – comprising of Hogan, Hall, Nash, and X-Pac – the “poison” that Vince McMahon had once referred to them as.

Road Dogg candidly admitted that he wasn’t fully aware of the NWO’s perceived failure in WWE at the time, as he was dealing with personal issues and was working for TNA. However, he brought up an interesting point about the dynamics of wrestling politics. He speculated that the NWO members might not have wanted to be portrayed as extreme heels due to the lucrative merchandise sales associated with being fan favorites.

The conversation took another intriguing turn when discussing the idea of reviving DX with the inclusion of Hall and Nash. The hypothetical scenario painted a picture of a revamped DX clashing with a returning Shawn Michaels, leading to potential betrayals and alliances.

While Road Dogg acknowledged the fun in speculating about “what could have been,” he emphasized the importance of focusing on the present and future storylines, hinting at the ever-evolving nature of wrestling narratives.
