The World Mourns the Loss of One of Wrestling’s Most Iconic Figures

The wrestling community is in mourning following the news of Terry Funk’s passing at the age of 79. Terry’s daughter, Brandee, initially shared the sad announcement, and later confirmed by wrestling legends Mick Foley and Ric Flair on social media.

Terry Funk is universally recognized as one of the all-time greats in professional wrestling. His influence is evident, with many of today’s top performers citing him as a pivotal inspiration in their decision to pursue a career in the squared circle. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Funk graced the rings of WWE, WCW, NWA, ECW, All Japan Pro Wrestling, MLW, New Japan Pro Wrestling, Jim Crockett Promotions, TNA, and numerous top independent circuits.

His accolades are numerous, having held titles such as the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, ECW Television Championship, WCW United States Championship, WCW Hardcore Championship, and the WWF Tag Team Championships. Funk’s versatility, charisma, and unparalleled skills both on the mic and in the ring made him a beloved figure in the industry.

His final match took place on September 23, 2017, where he teamed up with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express, Robert Gibson, and Ricky Morton, facing off against Brian Christopher, Doug Gilbert, and Jerry Lawler.
