Signed ring gear brings a six-figure auction result
Summary
– Steve Austin’s match-worn knee brace sold for $225,700.
– The lot included a letter signed by Linda McMahon.
– Another Austin brace brought $115,900 in May.
A piece of Steve Austin’s ring gear has changed hands for $225,700. His signed, match-worn knee brace sold through Heritage Auctions during its October Fall Sports Catalog Auction.
The item was cataloged as circa 1999 and offered as Lot 81947. Austin signed the top of the black DonJoy brace in gold paint pen, with the date “5-8-99” written nearby. A WWF authentication sticker also appears beside the inscription.
The 16-inch brace shows visible signs of use, including scratches and paint loss. Heritage noted that three of its four Velcro fasteners remained functional, while the top button had broken off.
Documentation accompanied the equipment. The lot included a WWE letter signed by Linda McMahon, along with authentication letters from Heritage Auctions, PSA/DNA and Beckett Authentication Services.
The result follows another substantial sale involving Austin’s gear. A different knee brace brought $115,900 through Heritage in May, putting this latest purchase well above that earlier figure.
Heritage also noted the limited availability of Austin’s match-worn memorabilia on the open market. This sale gives another example of what collectors are willing to spend for equipment associated with the Texas Rattlesnake.
