Injury Sidelines WWE Superstar, Tag Titles Remain Uncontested
In the world of WWE, the stage is smaller than SummerSlam. However, one of the company’s top Superstars, Kevin Owens, won’t be part of the action this year. Owens, who has been nursing a rib injury, was written off television this week, and his SummerSlam status has been confirmed: he won’t be wrestling at the biggest party of the summer.
The news was confirmed by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, stating that the “tag titles won’t be on the show with Kevin Owens getting time off due to his broken rib”. This injury has sidelined Owens, leaving his tag team partner, Sami Zayn, to carry their Undisputed Tag Team Championship reign solo for the time being.
Owens and Zayn, who have held the titles since the first night of WrestleMania 39, are still big players in WWE. However, with Owens out of action, what plans WWE has for Zayn at SummerSlam remains to be seen. For now, all we know is that the Prizefighter won’t be stepping into the ring at the Ford Field in Detroit on August 5th.
