Fuego Del Sol, the recently announced free agent and freshly recovered from injury, sat down with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful for his first post-AEW interview. Del Sol shared insights about his injury, the grueling recovery process, and the unwavering support he received from his fellow wrestler and friend, Sammy Guevara.
Del Sol, who significantly impacted AEW with his high-flying maneuvers and charismatic presence, suffered a severe foot injury during a match. He described the incident as a “freak accident” that occurred while performing a routine dropkick. His foot folded over upon landing, resulting in fractures in five spots. The most critical area affected was the Liz Franc joint, which required surgical intervention and the insertion of a screw.
The recovery process was challenging, with Del Sol spending over a month in a cast and undergoing extensive rehab before the screw was eventually removed. Despite the hardships, Del Sol expressed relief and excitement about returning to the ring on June 23rd at VIP wrestling.
Del Sol also highlighted the role of Sammy Guevara in his AEW journey. Guevara, a long-time friend and fellow wrestler, advocated for Del Sol’s inclusion in AEW. Their bond transcended the professional realm, with Guevara offering support and guidance throughout Del Sol’s recovery process.
