AEW Severs Ties with BJ Whitmer After Arrest on Domestic Violence Charges

The AEW Producer, BJ Whitmer, found himself in legal trouble on the evening of June 4 when he was arrested by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department in Boone County, Kentucky. Whitmer now faces charges of first-degree strangulation and second-degree burglary.

The first-degree strangulation offense involves situations where one person chokes another, causing injury. On the other hand, second-degree burglary pertains to non-residential burglaries.

Following his arrest, a bond of $25,000 was set, and Whitmer was bound to a Grand Jury. He was subsequently released on June 12, 2023, with the file indicating a “FINAL RELEASE.”

In response to the situation, AEW has taken swift action and officially terminated BJ Whitmer’s contract. The company issued a statement expressing their zero tolerance for such behavior: “B.J. Whitmer has been terminated following his arrest on domestic violence charges. While talent and staff are ultimately responsible for their own personal actions, this behavior is intolerable within AEW. AEW has reached out to offer support to those impacted by his behavior.”

Prior to his tenure in AEW, Whitmer achieved notable success during his time in Ring of Honor, where he secured the Tag Team Championship on four occasions. Since joining AEW in 2019 in a backstage capacity, Whitmer has made valuable contributions to the promotion, particularly in the Women’s Division, earning praise from individuals like Anna Jay.

As AEW moves forward, they remain committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all involved. The decision to sever ties with BJ Whitmer underscores their commitment to addressing misconduct and offering support to those affected by such actions.

While the circumstances are unfortunate, AEW will continue to focus on providing top-quality wrestling entertainment while upholding the values and principles that define the company.
