Nick Khan Affirms NXT’s Potential as an Independent Standalone Brand

Since its rebranding as NXT 2.0 in September 2021, WWE’s developmental brand has undergone significant transformations. Under the guidance of Shawn Michaels, NXT returned to its black and gold roots while remaining committed to nurturing the next generation of WWE Superstars. Recently, Nick Khan, the WWE CEO, expressed optimism regarding the development of NXT.

Previously regarded as WWE’s third brand before its reboot, NXT was afforded the same level of respect as its main roster counterparts. However, its role has shifted, primarily serving as a training ground for future main roster call-ups.

Acknowledging this shift, Triple H himself referred to NXT as a developmental brand. However, during his address at the J.P. Morgan 51st Annual Global Technology, Media, and Communications Conference in Boston, Nick Khan highlighted WWE’s belief in NXT’s potential to evolve into a standalone brand.

Khan stated, “We think NXT has the viability to be its own standalone brand instead of just being a developmental system – a third brand, if you will, where you can see cross-over from our superstars on Raw and SmackDown to NXT while our young talent develops there. Once we get all of that situated, then we will look at other nights of the week to develop new content as well.”

As NXT continues to expand in various ways, including focusing on its own Premium Live Events, introducing main roster talent to NXT has become more prevalent. It remains to be seen how NXT will further develop in the coming weeks and months.
