The Walking Dead: Dead City returns May 4 with a highly anticipated second season, and this time, Lauren Cohan steps behind the camera. The actress, who plays Maggie and serves as executive producer, will direct Episodes 4 and 6—marking a major milestone in her Walking Dead journey.
Cohan joins a growing list of Walking Dead Universe actors who have taken on directorial roles, including Michael Cudlitz, Lennie James, Colman Domingo, and Aisha Tyler. Her co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan first revealed her new role in a June 2024 social media post.
Season 2 picks up with Maggie raising two teens—her son Hershel and Ginny, a girl once cared for by Negan. But peace doesn’t last. A return to Manhattan reveals Negan has resumed a leadership role, complete with a new Lucille gifted by the Croat. As Maggie and the kids move closer to the chaos, the rivalry between her and Negan reignites.
The season also expands the world. Kim Coates joins as gang leader Bruegel, Dasha Polanco plays New Babylon officer Lucia Narvaez, and Keir Gilchrist, Jake Weary, and Pooya Mohseni add depth to the Croat’s growing army.
With Cohan directing and tensions rising between old enemies, Dead City Season 2 promises intense drama and high-stakes survival in the ruins of Manhattan.
