John Cena returns as Chris Smith in the high-octane DC series
Summary
– Peacemaker Season 2 premieres August 21, 2025, on Max
– New footage features action, chaos, and familiar faces
– James Gunn confirms the premiere is one of his favorite episodes yet
Peacemaker is officially locked and loaded for a return to Max this summer, and John Cena is back in full force as the DC antihero Chris Smith. Creator and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed the long-awaited second season will premiere on August 21, 2025. The announcement came with a new teaser that packs both explosions and emotion.
The sneak peek opens with Cena’s Peacemaker walking away from a fiery blast, sporting his signature glare and a classic thumbs-up. From there, the intensity ramps up: Chris sprints through a wooded area, a mystery figure crashes through a window, and Leota Adebayo declares, “You’re a superhero now.”
Returning cast members include Danielle Brooks as Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, and Robert Patrick in flashback form as the White Dragon. The emotional baggage of Smith’s past looks to play a larger role this season.
Gunn hinted at deeper storytelling, saying the premiere is one of his favorite things he’s ever worked on. With Season 2 diving further into the new DC Universe, fans can expect action, growth, and plenty of mayhem when the series returns.
Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21. pic.twitter.com/df3yOcCsdn
