After calling their shot last week, the Motor City Machine Guns made it official on SmackDown. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley defeated DIY in Chicago to become the new number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Following the match, Shelley spoke about the team’s mindset, crediting their climb back to the top to resilience and hard work. “We get knocked down, we don’t quit,” he said. “We climb that ladder again. Now look where we are.”
Later backstage, the Guns came face-to-face with the champions, The Street Profits. When asked about the exchange, Shelley said they made their position clear. “We don’t care about the grills, the chains, or reality shows,” he told Byron Saxton. “We’re the kings of this. If you’re gonna step to the kings, you better not miss.”
With their shot at the titles now secured, Sabin closed the segment with a simple line: “Luck is for losers.”
