Steven Yeun, known for The Walking Dead and Invincible, is officially joining the Avatar universe. He has been cast in the upcoming animated film from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, set to hit theaters on January 20, 2026.
The film is based on the beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Yeun’s role has not been disclosed, but his voice acting experience includes Invincible, Trollhunters, Tuca & Bertie, and The Legend of Korra, where he voiced Wan, the first Avatar.
Joining Yeun in the cast are Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza. Lauren Montgomery directs the film and aims to expand the Avatar legacy with an all-new theatrical chapter.
Yeun is also staying busy outside animation, having wrapped the crime thriller RIP and working on the Netflix drama Animals, directed by Ben Affleck.
