Punk reveals last-minute scramble and tribute to SummerSlam 1997
Summary
– CM Punk’s original gear didn’t arrive in time, leading to a last-minute replacement
– He paid tribute to Bret Hart by replicating Hart’s SummerSlam 1997 design
– Punk credits his team for pulling it off and highlights his love for wrestling history
CM Punk told Stephanie McMahon about a gear mishap that became a meaningful tribute during his appearance on “Stephanie’s Places” on ESPN+. Punk explained that his intended ring attire wasn’t made in time, forcing him to improvise before his match.
Not wanting to reuse gear he wore at the Royal Rumble, Punk’s team quickly rallied to recreate an outfit inspired by Bret Hart’s look from SummerSlam 1997. That match featured Hart facing The Undertaker with Shawn Michaels as the guest referee. In a similar setting, Punk was set to face Drew McIntyre, with Seth Rollins acting as referee.
Despite the gear crisis, Punk said the team’s support helped him stay calm, and the last-minute solution allowed him to pay tribute to one of his wrestling heroes.
