Steven Yeun is back with another unique project, this time stepping into the quirky world of Bubble and Squeak. The indie film debuted at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 24 as part of the U.S. Dramatic Competition.
Directed by Evan Twohy and adapted from his stage play, Bubble and Squeak marks his first feature film. Described as a surreal comedy in the style of Jeff Baena, the film follows Declan and Delores, played by Hamish Patel and Sarah Goldberg, as they try to evade border agents who suspect them of smuggling cabbages. Yeun takes on the role of a customs officer named Bkofl, while Dave Franco, Matt Berry, and a cast of Estonian actors round out the lineup.
Yeun, speaking at Sundance, revealed that he was drawn to the project by a well-crafted email and found the script bold and wildly different. Early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes have been mixed, sitting at 38%, but the film’s unconventional nature may find a stronger reception among audiences.
Beyond Bubble and Squeak, Yeun has a packed schedule. He stars in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, set for a March 7 release, alongside Robert Pattinson and Mark Ruffalo. He also returns as the voice of Mark Grayson in Invincible Season 3, premiering Feb. 6 on Prime Video.
Additionally, Yeun stars in the sci-fi romance Love Me with Kristen Stewart and is set to appear in Alpha Gang, a comedic alien invasion film featuring Zoë Kravitz, Dave Bautista, and Cate Blanchett.
