Alycia Debnam-Carey, known as Alicia Clark in Fear the Walking Dead, is stepping into a new Netflix drama, Apple Cider Vinegar. The true-ish crime series follows the rise and fall of a fraudulent wellness empire and stars Debnam-Carey alongside Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actress Kaitlyn Dever.
The Australian production, directed by Jeffrey Walker and created by Samantha Strauss, draws inspiration from The Woman Who Fooled the World by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano. The story follows Belle Gibson and Milla Blake, two influencers who use social media to gain global recognition by promoting health and wellness to cure life-threatening illnesses—only for it all to be revealed as a massive lie.
Netflix describes the series as a true-ish story based on a lie about the rise and fall of a wellness empire, the culture that built it up, and the people who tore it down.
Debnam-Carey plays Milla, while Dever takes on the role of Belle. They are joined by Aisha Dee as Milla’s friend Chanelle, along with Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Mark Coles Smith, Ashley Zukerman, Susie Porter, Matt Nable, Phoenix Raei, Chai Hansen, Rick Davies, Kieran Darcy-Smith, Catherine McClements, and Essie Davis.
The official trailer teases the intense rivalry between Belle and Milla, culminating in Milla’s ominous phone call: “I want to destroy her.”
Apple Cider Vinegar premieres on Netflix on February 6.
