Summary
– Michin explained her name’s meaning during an interview with The Wrestling Classic
– The name, given by her mom, reflects her Korean heritage and personal history
– While open to being Mia Yim again, Michin remains her current choice
Michin, previously known as Mia Yim, has shared why she adopted the name Michin after rejoining WWE in 2022. Speaking to The Wrestling Classic, she revealed that joining The OC came with a suggestion to have a nickname. Michin was a natural choice for her, a term her mom lovingly used to call her and her sister, meaning “crazy.”
This name resonates deeply for Michin as it ties to her Korean identity, allowing her to represent her heritage in a sport where Korea doesn’t have a strong wrestling presence. She explained that adopting meaningful elements, whether through her name or attire like her Virginia Union varsity jacket, honors her culture and her mom’s influence.
I know that the OC has their nicknames, mainly when they wrestled in Japan, so when I came back and joined them, they said, ‘You need a nickname; that’s just part of the crew.’ Michin is something I’ve had since I was a kid, from my mom. She would call me and my sister crazy. So to me, it was my choice to pick this name, Michin explained.
She continued, It also helps me in the American market. You have luchadors and Japanese wrestling, but wrestling isn’t big in Korea. I want to use whatever platform I have to showcase my ethnicity… My mom has called me and my sister this since we were little, and that’s why it means so much to me.
Michin is content with her name, which holds immense personal value. While open to being Mia Yim again, the emotional connection to Michin ensures it will always hold a special place in her journey.
