Kiefer Sutherland, best known for his iconic role as Jack Bauer on 24, is channeling his love for music to inspire young minds. A lifelong guitarist, Sutherland began playing at age ten and has since released several albums, touring the world with his namesake band.
“When I sing a song I wrote, I’m sharing personal experiences and hoping to connect with others through shared emotions,” Sutherland said. His journey into music began nearly a decade ago and has become a fulfilling creative outlet alongside his acting career.
This week, Sutherland performed a sold-out show in Massachusetts to benefit Music Drives Us, a nonprofit organization founded in 2006 by Ernie Boch Jr. The charity provides instruments, equipment, and funding to schools lacking music programs. An elementary school in Medford recently received ukuleles, guitars, violins, and a piano to replace aging instruments.
Sutherland stressed the importance of music in schools. “Music brings people together. Losing it in public schools is a mistake. It’s vital for both education and social connection.”
While juggling a packed schedule, including his work with Clint Eastwood on Juror Number Two and a new film in Colombia, Sutherland prioritizes supporting causes like Music Drives Us to ensure the next generation has access to the power of music.
