The WWE Women’s Champion Reflects on the Impact of Fewer House Shows

Summary

– Morgan believes house shows helped her grow as a performer.

– Newer talents may miss out on valuable experience due to fewer house shows.

WWE fans get their weekly dose of drama and action on television, but live events have always offered a different, more intimate experience. These house shows allow superstars to showcase their skills away from the cameras purely because of their love of wrestling. However, WWE is now reducing its live event schedule, and not everyone is happy about it.

Liv Morgan, the current WWE Women’s World Champion, recently spoke to the New York Post about WWE’s decision to scale back on house shows. When asked for her opinion, Morgan admitted that she’s “a little bit” sad about the change, highlighting how house shows were pivotal to her development in the ring.

“I’m sad to see them kind of go a little bit because the house shows are so much fun and it’s so, so much more intimate. House shows are truly for the love of the game. House shows are for the love of the art of wrestling, performing, and being with the fans and interacting with fans on a more intimate level,” Morgan shared. “Also for me, I feel like that’s when I got good, having so many reps on these live events in 2017, ’18, ’19. I was doing every single live event. But it helped me get so much better because I was getting all these reps. I’m sad to see that go for the newer guys and girls coming in who aren’t going to be able to have that experience and have (those) reps at live events under (their) belt but it is what it is.”

Liv Morgan clearly deeply appreciates these smaller events, acknowledging how they played a crucial role in her growth as a performer. For fans, watching her journey over the years on television was a testament to the experience and skills she developed on the road.

Morgan is set to defend her WWE Women’s World Championship against Rhea Ripley at Bad Blood on October 5. The match has a unique twist as Dominik Mysterio will be suspended in a shark cage above the ring.

With Endeavor now owning WWE, changes to the event schedule may continue. While live events don’t generate the same revenue as televised shows, their possible decline leaves some, like Liv Morgan, wondering about the future opportunities for up-and-coming talent.
