Lauper’s Iconic Contributions to Wrestling Remembered

– Calls for Lauper’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame gain traction

Cyndi Lauper has firmly established herself as an icon in the music industry, but according to Drew Barrymore, Lauper is an icon of another industry as well – professional wrestling. On a recent episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” the popular talk show host looked back on Lauper’s contributions to the wrestling world, including her involvement in the “Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Connection” period of the 1980s. This era saw Lauper engage in storylines with WWF manager “Captain” Lou Albano, significantly boosting the crossover appeal of wrestling.

Barrymore highlighted Lauper’s influence and noted the growing online support for Lauper’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

“I’m just so happy to be next to someone who is royalty of such amazing worlds,” Barrymore told Lauper. “I mean it.”

Lauper responded with modesty, unsure if she fit under the umbrella of wrestling “royalty,” but playfully reminded viewers of her ability to square up still if needed.

Barrymore emphasized the online movement supporting Lauper’s Hall of Fame induction.

“You know what? There’s actually a social media movement to get you in the Hall of Fame of Wrestling, so I’m not crazy,” Barrymore said.

Drew Barrymore isn’t the only notable name advocating for Lauper’s induction. Last year, former WWF Women’s Champion Madusa (aka Alundra Blayze) expressed her belief that Lauper deserved the honor, particularly because of her involvement in the first WrestleMania. At that event, Lauper helped her client, Wendi Richter, fend off The Fabulous Moolah while Richter challenged Leilani Kai for the WWF Women’s Championship. Their efforts paid off, with Richter walking out as the new champion.

Cyndi Lauper’s contributions to wrestling, especially during a pivotal time in the industry’s history, have left a lasting impact. The continued push for her WWE Hall of Fame induction reflects her significant role and the admiration from both fans and peers alike.
