– Rockstar’s shift in focus to GTA Online and other factors led to the scrapping of these planned expansions.

A significant leak concerning Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) has recently surfaced, revealing that Rockstar Games had extensive plans for the game’s expansion through eight single-player DLCs. These plans, however, never came to fruition, leaving fans to wonder what could have been.

The leak, which included the game’s full source code, revealed references to the unreleased DLCs. The list of scrapped expansions is diverse and intriguing, including titles like the “SP Assassination Pack,” “Manhunt Pack,” “Norman Pack,” “Agent Trevor Relationship Pack,” “Enterprise Pack,” “Prologue DLC,” and “LibertyV DLC.” Each title hints at unique content that could have significantly expanded the GTA 5 universe.

One of the most notable expansions is the “LibertyV DLC,” which suggests a potential return to Liberty City, the iconic setting of GTA IV. Another interesting expansion is the “Agent Trevor Relationship Pack,” which might have delved deeper into Trevor’s character, one of the main protagonists of GTA 5.

The decision to scrap these expansions likely stemmed from the immense success of GTA Online, which has been a significant revenue generator for Rockstar Games. Additionally, the development of next-gen versions of GTA 5, resource allocation to GTA Online, and the impending release of Red Dead Redemption 2 were contributing factors.

In 2017, Rockstar Games’ director of design, Imran Sarwar, mentioned that while they love single-player open-world games, not everything is always possible due to bandwidth issues and the perfectionist nature of the studio. This statement aligns with the decision to forgo single-player expansions for GTA 5.

As Rockstar Games now shifts its focus to the development of GTA 6, set for release in 2025, the gaming community is left to speculate on what these unreleased expansions might have added to the GTA 5 experience.
