– Set in France, the series explores new challenges and reunions in the post-apocalyptic world.

Melissa McBride is set to reprise her role as Carol Peletier in one of the new spinoffs in “The Walking Dead” universe (TWDU). After portraying Carol in the main series for 12 years, McBride took a much-needed break but will now step back into Carol’s story. AMC announced McBride’s return to TWDU for the second season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” with the upcoming season’s title altered to add the subtitle “The Book of Carol.”

“Daryl Dixon” is the fifth spinoff in TWDU and saw much success, setting records for viewership on the network’s streaming service, AMC+. The series is set and filmed in France, providing a unique backdrop that, amidst the destruction, still retains a romantic feel associated with France. In the first season, viewers watched as Daryl (Norman Reedus) arrived in France and began a plan to return home. He encounters many new people, friends, and foes as he aids a resistance group called the Union of Hope.

The first season ends with Daryl at a crossroads, deciding whether to board a boat back to the US or stay and help his newfound friends. The series concluded its story in November 2022, and Carol said her goodbyes to her best friend, Daryl. She was established as a leader at the Commonwealth, and Daryl searched for Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and others who might be a good fit among the communities.

In a flashback during the first season of “Daryl Dixon,” Daryl reaches Carol via radio to check in and let her know he will return in a week. Soon after, Daryl is thrown onto the boat bound for France. During the season finale’s final scene, Carol is seen searching for Daryl in Maine, his last known location. It is no surprise that Carol began her search when he didn’t arrive as promised.

This pair has a long history, and their story will continue in the second season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol” spinoff, premiering in 2024. It will be exciting to see what they experience apart, and this series will give fans the long-awaited reunion between Carol and Daryl.
