AMC has announced the premiere date for its latest series in the “The Walking Dead” franchise, “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.” Scheduled to debut on February 25, 2024, the series marks the return of beloved characters Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) from the original series. Both Lincoln and Gurira also serve as executive producers, alongside showrunner Scott M. Gimple, Denise Huth, and Brian Bockrath.

“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” is described as an epic love story set in a world drastically altered by war and the struggle for survival. The series will delve into the lives of Rick and Michonne as they navigate a new world, posing the question: Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known? The show promises to explore themes of love, identity, and survival in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Andrew Lincoln left “The Walking Dead” in 2018 after a decade-long stint as the protagonist Rick Grimes, citing the need to spend more time with his family in England. Danai Gurira’s character Michonne exited the show during its tenth season. Both characters made cameo appearances in the 2022 season finale, setting the stage for this upcoming spinoff.

In the new teaser, Lincoln addresses his absence from the “The Walking Dead” universe, hinting at the story’s ambition to provide answers and a fresh narrative perspective. Gurira echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the powerful dynamic of Rick and Michonne’s relationship.

“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” is set to add a new dimension to the popular franchise, focusing on character-driven storytelling and the enduring human spirit amidst chaos. Fans of the series are eagerly anticipating this new chapter, which promises to bring a fresh and exciting perspective to the “The Walking Dead” universe.
