IMPACT Wrestling Reverts to Original Moniker

In a move that has sent ripples through the wrestling community, IMPACT Wrestling concluded their Bound For Glory event with a monumental announcement: the promotion is reverting to its original name, Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling. This transition is set to commence with the “Hard to Kill” pay-per-view in January.

The decision to revert to the TNA name was not made on a whim. In fact, it was a well-thought-out move that was initially slated to be unveiled at Slammiversary but was later rescheduled for Bound For Glory. The final call to make this switch was made approximately 2 to 3 weeks prior to the announcement.

Several reasons influenced this significant change. One of the primary factors was the desire to unify the promotion’s fragmented history, which has seen it operate under various names, including TNA, Global Force Wrestling, and IMPACT Wrestling. Additionally, many international partners of the company have shown a preference for the TNA name, even using it internally. Moreover, a quiet poll conducted among long-term fans earlier this year revealed a strong inclination towards the TNA moniker.

A few years back, there was a surge of nostalgia for TNA, especially when the company reintroduced the TNA title with Moose as its champion. Originally, there were plans to resurrect TNA as a distinct TV series and potentially a separate promotion. However, these plans were shelved due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead of running two distinct promotions, the company has decided to operate solely under the TNA name. While the transition will be official in January, the UK tour will still carry the IMPACT Wrestling branding. The company’s vision remains consistent: to maintain the current storylines, talent roster, and wrestling style, but under the TNA banner.

Scott D’Amore, present at the announcement, succinctly captured the sentiment, stating, “We’re back.”
