The journey of Carlito’s WWE comeback and the misunderstandings that prolonged it.
Carlito, a name that resonates with many WWE fans, made a significant mark during his tenure with the company, clinching championship gold on multiple occasions. His return during the 2021 Royal Rumble, after an 11-year hiatus, was a moment many fans cherished. However, his subsequent appearances at Backlash and Fastlane this year have shed light on the reasons behind his prolonged absence.
In a candid conversation on the Ringer Wrestling Show’s Cheap Heat podcast, Carlito delved into the reasons that kept him away from the WWE ring for over a decade. He highlighted a prevailing sense of miscommunication between him and the company. Carlito believed he had unresolved issues with WWE, while the company thought the same about him. This mutual misunderstanding led to a prolonged silence between the two parties.
Carlito expressed, “I always had a deep affection for WWE and envisioned a return. However, the perceived animosity from both ends created a barrier. Over time, perspectives change, and I’ve always held WWE close to my heart. I needed a hiatus, albeit not one that lasted 13 years.”
He elaborated on the misconceptions that might have arisen from his behavior. “I avoid going backstage just to greet everyone; it gives off the vibe that I’m seeking employment. My achievements speak for themselves. I wanted to be in a place where I’m genuinely wanted. My credentials are out there. If WWE wanted me, they knew where to find me.”
Fortunately, bridges were mended, and both parties were able to clear the air, reaffirming their mutual respect and admiration for each other. Carlito’s recent interactions on WWE programming, including a backstage segment involving Bobby Lashley, hint at promising storylines for the superstar. Whether this leads to a significant push for Carlito remains to be seen.
