The Legends Revisit Their Tag Team Days and Beyond

Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio, two pillars of professional wrestling, have left an indelible mark on the industry. Their tag team stint in 2004 on “WWE SmackDown” remains a testament to their combined prowess and chemistry. On a recent episode of “1 Of A Kind,” RVD delved deep into this partnership, which spanned from May 2004 to January 2005.

Teaming with Mysterio was a joyous experience for Van Dam. “There’s this bond I feel with Rey, almost protective, akin to a big brother,” he shared. Their in-ring camaraderie was evident, with RVD often engaging in light-hearted banter, aiming to elicit laughter from Mysterio during matches.

RVD’s admiration for Mysterio’s versatile move set was evident. It paved the way for their signature tandem moves, leaving audiences in awe. Their brainstorming sessions backstage were a hotbed of creativity, ensuring fans always witnessed something novel. The duo even had a brief reunion at 5 Star Live in the UK before Mysterio’s much-anticipated WWE return.

Reflecting on their bond, RVD stated, “Rey’s aura is pure positivity. It’s challenging to find anyone with a contrary opinion.” Both have been rightly honored, with Mysterio’s recent WWE Hall of Fame induction and RVD’s nod in 2021. As Mysterio continues to dazzle in WWE, RVD has been making waves in AEW, proving that their legacies are still very much alive.
