Knight’s Anticipated Return Could Set Up a Tag Team Match at WWE’s Fastlane
LA Knight’s short hiatus from WWE due to a positive COVID-19 test is about to conclude. As per PWInsider, fans can expect to see Knight in action at the upcoming “SmackDown” event in Sacramento, California. This comes after he was notably absent from the September 22 episode of the show.
Initially, Knight was slated to appear in the episode’s final segment, where John Cena faced an assault from the Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso. The plan was for Knight to come to Cena’s rescue, potentially hinting at a tag team match against Sikoa and Uso for WWE’s Fastlane premium live event. However, due to his absence, Cena was left without any assistance.
In the episode, WWE official Adam Pearce announced a match between Cena and AJ Styles versus Sikoa and Uso at Fastlane. However, a twist came when Styles was ambushed backstage. With Knight’s imminent return and the Fastlane event scheduled for October 7, there’s ample opportunity for WWE to reintroduce Knight as Cena’s tag team partner.
LA Knight’s trajectory in WWE has been on a steady rise. At 40, he’s experiencing some of the most significant moments of his WWE career. His recent victory over The Miz, following a feud that ignited after Knight’s win in the Slim Jim Battle Royal at WWE SummerSlam, has cemented his status. Their rivalry culminated at Payback, where Knight triumphed over Miz, with Cena officiating the match as a special guest referee. This victory marked the beginning of a mutual respect between Cena and Knight, setting the stage for potential collaborations in the ring.
