The Heartbreak Kid Expresses Interest in Punk’s Potential NXT Stint
In the ever-evolving landscape of professional wrestling, few names generate as much buzz and controversy as CM Punk. Following his unexpected departure from AEW, the rumor mill has been abuzz with speculation about his next move. Interestingly, a recent comment from WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels has added fuel to the fire.
During a media conference leading up to NXT’s No Mercy event, Michaels, a pivotal figure in NXT’s development, was posed with a tantalizing question: Would he be open to CM Punk joining the black and gold brand? Michaels’ response was candid and somewhat surprising.
“Of course we’d welcome him in NXT,” Michaels stated, adding a caveat, “I don’t know if he’d want to do it here, he’d want to go to the main roster.”
Delving deeper into his personal feelings about Punk, Michaels expressed genuine admiration. He described Punk as a “different type of cat,” suggesting that perhaps their shared non-conformist attitudes in the wrestling business might be a bonding factor. Michaels candidly admitted, “I always understood CM Punk.”
However, the former DX leader was quick to clarify that the decision to bring Punk into the WWE fold, especially NXT, isn’t his to make. While Michaels would be thrilled to see Punk in NXT, he humorously remarked, “but I don’t think that they’ll let me.” He even playfully hinted that his public endorsement might land him in hot water.
Outside of WWE, other promotions like Impact Wrestling have shown interest in the Straight Edge Superstar. The NWA World Title scene could also be a potential destination for Punk.
