An Expanded New York Awaits in the Next Chapter of the Spider-Man Saga
The world of Marvel’s Spider-Man is about to get a lot bigger and better. Bryan Intihar, the Senior Creative Director at Insomniac Games, recently unveiled what fans can expect from the highly anticipated sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The game promises an enthralling story and an evolved open-world experience that fully harnesses the power of the PlayStation 5.
One of the most significant enhancements is the expansion of Marvel’s New York. The city’s size has nearly doubled with the inclusion of two iconic boroughs: Queens and Brooklyn. This expansion brings new mechanics, such as the web wings, which, combined with web swinging, allows players to traverse the city faster and in novel ways. Whether you’re exploring the neighborhood backdrop of Queens or witnessing the fireworks at Coney Island, the experience promises to be different from the towering skyscrapers of Manhattan. Notable locations such as Peter Parker’s old haunt, Midtown High, and Miles Morales’ current school, Brooklyn Visions Academy, are also part of the expanded map.
But that’s not all. Players will now have the ability to switch between Spider-Man and Miles Morales almost instantly, thanks to the PS5’s capabilities. This feature ensures that the gameplay remains dynamic and engaging, offering different perspectives and abilities as you swing through the city.
As players progress through the main storyline, they’ll discover a plethora of new activities and subplots. Many of these will be visually represented in the game world, like Craven’s drones circling a building or mysterious symbols projected in the sky. These cues lead players to challenges and rewards, providing deeper insights into characters like Marvel’s greatest hunter, Craven.
The Spider-duo also boasts new AR tech in their masks, helping players locate activities and points of interest. An upgraded friendly neighborhood Spider-Man app will also assist players in tracking nearby events and requests from New York’s residents. The game introduces a new District progress system, rewarding players for their exploration and activities. And, of course, customization remains a key feature, with over 65 suits from the Marvel universe available for players to unlock.
