Sonny Kiss Expresses Surprise Over Non-renewal of AEW Contract

An Unexpected Turn: Sonny Kiss Reflects on AEW’s Decision

Sonny Kiss shared her astonishment upon discovering that her AEW contract would not be renewed. The 29-year-old wrestler, who had been a part of All Elite Wrestling since its 2019 inception, recently saw her contract come to an end.

AEW’s Tony Khan addressed the decision during the All Out media scrum, pointing to the promotion’s expansive roster as the primary reason behind the non-renewal. However, Khan left the door open for a potential return for Kiss in the future.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Kiss expressed her deep-rooted passion for wrestling and the heartbreak she felt upon hearing the news. “It’s like a heartbreak, it’s been a little rough because this is everything I’ve ever wanted to do,” she shared. “I worked tirelessly for this not to happen.”

Kiss was informed about the contract situation in late August, a moment she described as shocking. Her dedication to the craft was evident, as she highlighted her commitment to training and development. Whenever she was scheduled for television, she seized the opportunity to train with veteran wrestler Dustin Rhodes. Even when not booked, Kiss would request to attend TV tapings just to hone her skills alongside Rhodes.

She recalled, “Every single time I got sent to TV, I was there hours before doors opened. I worked my ass off every single week to make sure that this didn’t happen. So, it’s heartbreaking, 100 percent.”

Despite the setback, Kiss remains undeterred. She continues to maintain an active presence on the independent wrestling circuit, recently performing at GCW Effy’s Big Gay Brunch 7. As a free agent, she’s eager to embrace new opportunities. “Obviously, I’m a free agent. I’m just going to work as many indies as I can,” Kiss stated, expressing optimism about her future.

The conversation took an interesting turn when co-host Tommy Dreamer, associated with Impact Wrestling backstage, hinted at a potential opportunity, suggesting Kiss reach out to him post-show.
