Sonny Kiss Parts Ways with AEW
The wrestling landscape is constantly shifting, with wrestlers coming and going, making their mark and leaving legacies. One such notable name in the AEW roster has been Sonny Kiss. However, recent developments have indicated a change in the status quo.
During the AEW All Out post-show media scrum, Tony Khan confirmed that Sonny Kiss’s contract with AEW had yet to be renewed. This news came to light when observant fans noticed that Kiss’s name had been removed from the AEW roster page. Fightful Select further reported that Kiss’s contract had expired.
Khan expressed his admiration for Sonny Kiss, mentioning that while AEW has a roster boasting over 100 wrestlers, renewing every contract is challenging. He emphasized that the non-renewal was not a reflection of Kiss’s talent or potential but rather a logistical decision given the vast number of talents and limited TV spots. Khan reminisced about Sonny’s journey in AEW, from being a part of the inaugural year in 2019 to competing in AEW’s first show, AEW Double or Nothing 2019.
Sonny Kiss had been a prominent figure, especially during the early months of AEW’s inception. While most of his appearances were on AEW Dark and Dark Elevation, the summer of 2022 saw a significant shift. Kiss turned heel, joining forces with the Trustbusters alongside Ari Daivari and Parker Boudreaux. However, Kiss returned to AEW Dark and Dark Elevation after a brief period in the limelight.
Despite the end of his AEW journey, Sonny Kiss remains an active figure in the independent wrestling circuit. His last appearance in an AEW ring was during the AEW Dark taping on March 24.
Khan concluded by expressing his openness to the idea of Sonny Kiss returning to AEW in the future. He highlighted the unpredictability of the wrestling world, where talents often return after exploring other avenues, reiterating his high regard for Sonny Kiss.
