WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam Reflects on His AEW Debut and Match Against Jack Perry for the FTW Championship
Rob Van Dam, the WWE Hall of Famer, made his in-ring debut for AEW on the August 9 episode of AEW Dynamite, challenging Jack Perry for the FTW Championship. The match came a week after Van Dam’s AEW debut, where he came to Jerry Lynn’s aid, confronting Perry and setting up the bout. Though Perry emerged victorious, the win was not without controversy, as he struck Van Dam below the belt.
In a digital exclusive, Rob Van Dam shared his feelings about his AEW in-ring debut, expressing gratitude for the fans’ positive energy. “Well, it felt pretty awesome going tonight. I count on the fans’ positive energy that they bring. I rely on connecting with them, but I’m still overwhelmed when they all have RVD signs and they’re all in unison chanting for me. It always exceeds my expectation when that moment is real, and I’m connected to them. It’s nothing but love. Love is the most powerful energy in the universe,” Van Dam said.
Jerry Lynn, who was present at Van Dam’s side, also commented on the veteran’s first match in AEW, emphasizing that they always aimed to prove their worth through wrestling rather than shortcuts. The match’s outcome may not have gone Van Dam’s way, but the way it happened ensured that he didn’t lose face.
Rob Van Dam’s debut in AEW adds to the excitement and dynamism of the promotion, and fans are looking forward to seeing more of this legendary performer in the AEW ring.
