WWE SummerSlam 2023 Marks Historic Highs in Viewership, Gate, Sponsorship, and Merchandise Sales
WWE SummerSlam 2023 has made history by becoming the most-watched SummerSlam of all time. The event, which aired live on Peacock on August 5 from Ford Field in Detroit, MI, set new records across various domains.
WWE announced an impressive attendance of 59,194, generating a gate of $8.5 million, the largest ever for a non-WrestleMania event. The viewership record was not the only milestone; SummerSlam also smashed sponsorship and merchandise records. With $7 million in sponsorship revenue, up 23 percent from 2022, and merchandise sales up 60 percent, marking the best performance in company history for any premium live event outside of WrestleMania.
Sponsors like Slim Jim, C4, and Rocket Mortgage were part of this premium live event. On-location packages also set a new SummerSlam record, up 47 percent compared to 2022. Additionally, SummerSlam became the most-viewed social SummerSlam ever, with over 230 million views and four million hours of video consumed, a 26 percent increase over the previous year.
These record-breaking numbers reflect the growing popularity and success of WWE events, solidifying SummerSlam’s position as a premier wrestling event.
