Key AEW Figures Expected to Remain Amid Expanding Programming and Contract Speculations

AEW is keen on retaining its top stars as the company continues to expand its programming lineup. Despite losing a few notable names, such as Cody Rhodes, it seems unlikely that the rest of AEW’s EVPs will follow suit.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently discussed The Elite’s current contract status with AEW. It was noted, “the prevailing belief is that the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Adam Page are staying. The interview Omega did off the air in Boston would have led you to believe that is the case.”

The report further elaborated that the interview Kenny Omega conducted in Boston was initially intended to be aired on television. The handshake between the Golden Elite and BCC, which seemed to signal the end of their feud, was also supposed to be televised.

“The interview was also originally supposed to be on television, as was the handshake between the Golden Elite and BCC, which seemed to signal the end of the feud at this point. If that Omega thing was on television with the mention of them sticking together, that’s where so many people believed they were staying and there was a no deal. None of those involved have said if that is what that line meant.”

From WWE’s perspective, they had the impression months ago that they had a good shot at Omega in 2024, and he was the most coveted of all the guys being talked about, like Jay White and the others. That has gone cold, so they do believe he’s staying with AEW.

Tony Khan’s substantial offers suggest optimism or the expectation of a significant rate increase, making lucrative deals financially viable. However, the current television landscape could be more varied and highly unstable, presenting a unique challenge for committing to long-term ventures. The decision for television networks to embrace new projects years ahead will be intriguing in such a dynamic environment.

As of now, nothing has been officially signed. WWE, in particular, doesn’t want to risk contract tampering, especially with the ongoing antitrust lawsuit with MLW.
