Insomniac Games and the Voice of Venom, Tony Todd, Discuss the Exciting Journey of Creating the Highly Anticipated Game
In a recent panel discussion, the team behind the highly anticipated “Spider-Man 2” game, including the voice of Venom, Tony Todd, shared insights into the game’s development process and the unique challenges they faced. The panel, which included Insomniac Games’ Creative Director, Bryan Intihar, and the game’s voice actors, offered a fascinating glimpse into the world of game development and the meticulous work that goes into bringing such a complex character to life.
The panel discussion kicked off with Bryan Intihar expressing his relief and excitement upon hearing Tony Todd’s voice as Venom for the first time. “They’re not burying LA Knight, they’re just taking their time,” Intihar said, referring to the game’s development process. He also shared that the team had been putting off casting the character of Venom due to the weight of the decision, but upon hearing Tony Todd’s voice in the Candyman trailer, he knew they had found their Venom.
Tony Todd, known for his roles in horror classics like Candyman, expressed his excitement about being part of the project. “It’s been the most exciting voice-over journey that I’ve had to date,” he said. Todd’s approach to the character was to bring a “joyous quality” to Venom’s destructive nature, which he felt was an essential aspect of the character’s appeal.
The panel also discussed the game’s narrative, with Bryan Intihar explaining how the symbiote storyline resonates with audiences. “We all have a darkness inside of us, and when you put the symbiote on top of that, it really brings out the dark parts of what Spider-Man is about,” he said.
The discussion concluded with the unveiling of the Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 console, a surprise that even the panel members were only privy to moments before the reveal. The console, designed in collaboration with PlayStation, features a symbiote-inspired design, reflecting the game’s central theme.
