The New NXT North American Champion Challenges His Father’s Legacy
In a recent interview, the newly crowned NXT North American Champion, Dominik Mysterio, made a bold statement about his father, Rey Mysterio. Dominik, who was accompanied by WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, was asked about his presence on Friday Night SmackDown.
“Well, I just really wanted to show my deadbeat dad, Rey Mysterio, what a real champion looks like,” Dominik said. He went on to compare his championship with the potential victory of his father in the United States Championship. “Because if he happens to win the United States Championship, he’s only the champion of the United States. Me, on the other hand, the new NXT North American Champion, I’m champion of all of North America and 23 other countries.”
The interview took an interesting turn when the idea of a title defense for the night was proposed. “Congratulations, mate, the new North American Champion. And we’re in the home of NXT, that feels to me like fight night. So what’d you say, me and you for that title tonight?” was the challenge thrown at Dominik.
However, Dominik seemed hesitant, stating, “I’m not dressed, the title’s not polished, and there’s no one here from NXT to-” before being interrupted by a cough. The idea of a title match between Dominik Mysterio and Butch was then floated, setting the stage for a potential showdown.
