Tony Schiavone, a well-known figure in the world of professional wrestling, recently clarified his contract situation with AEW, during an episode of the “What Happened When” podcast, Schiavone revealed that his contract with AEW is set to expire in April 2024.
The podcast host, Conrad Thompson, humorously suggested that Schiavone had secured a lifetime contract with AEW, to which Schiavone responded, “That’s a f***ing lie. Unless my life ends by April next year. There is no guarantee that they’re going to re-sign me. That’s how I approach life. No guarantees.”
Schiavone, who had a brief stint with WWE in 1989 and 1990, ruled out the possibility of returning to the Stamford-based promotion, even if offered a lucrative deal. He shared that his wife, Lois Schiavone, has made it clear that she would divorce him if he even considered going back to WWE.
Despite his wife’s opposition to a potential move to WWE, Schiavone has previously spoken positively about his time with the company, even stating that his year with WWE was his best in professional wrestling. He also mentioned having a good relationship with Vince McMahon.
As AEW prepares to launch a new show, AEW Collision, on June 17, whether Schiavone will be part of the broadcast team remains to be seen. Currently, he serves as the color commentator for AEW Dynamite and AEW Rampage and hosts the YouTube preview show Control Center.
