Michaels clarified that the simultaneous scheduling of the two events could have been more intentional and, to his knowledge, such a situation will not recur in the future.
When asked about WWE’s plans to continue running NXT events in opposition to AEW pay-per-views, Michaels stated that this would be a rare occurrence. He explained that the decision to hold the NXT event on the same weekend was primarily due to the significance of the Memorial Day weekend for WWE. The aim was to create a big WWE weekend for fans, with Night of Champions on Saturday and NXT on Sunday.
Michaels expressed his personal preference for standalone weekends for NXT events, emphasizing the benefits of less competition. Despite his love for basketball and NHL, he admitted to being thrilled when their playoffs are over, reducing the competition for viewership.
This Sunday, however, wrestling fans will have to choose between NXT Battleground and AEW Double or Nothing or find a way to watch both simultaneously. While AEW and NXT used to compete every Wednesday night, NXT has since moved to Tuesdays. Despite AEW’s perceived victory in this ‘war,’ Michaels is not keen on splitting the viewership of NXT’s premium live events.
