The NXT Women’s Championship will be up for grabs in a tournament that kicks off next week on NXT. The announcement was made by Indi Hartwell during the final segment of this week’s episode, with the tournament set to culminate at Battleground on May 28. Hartwell had recently been drafted to Raw from SmackDown.
During the segment, Hartwell left the Women’s Championship on the ground and mentioned that she had suffered an ankle sprain during last week’s NXT Women’s title match. She then wondered who would help her out of the ring, at which point Dexter Lumis emerged from under the ring and carried her away. Meanwhile, Tiffany Stratton and Cora Jade grabbed the Women’s Championship, leading to a brawl among the NXT women’s roster.
Hartwell held the championship for 31 days after winning it in a ladder match at NXT Stand & Deliver last month. The match featured several other notable wrestlers, including Roxanne Perez, Lyra Valkyria, Stratton, Zoey Stark, and Gigi Dolin.
In other women’s division news, Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre successfully defended their NXT Women’s Tag Team titles against Katana Chance and Kayden Carter on this week’s NXT. They also hinted that they would be taking the titles to SmackDown, where they were drafted as part of the 2023 WWE Draft.
With the Women’s Championship now up for grabs, the NXT women’s roster will no doubt be looking to step up and claim the title. Fans can tune in next week to see who will emerge as the new NXT Women’s Champion.
