WWE legend Edge recently shared insights into his methods for retaining creative control over his wrestling character during a guest appearance on the “Impaulsive” podcast, hosted by popular YouTuber Logan Paul.
Edge disclosed that he takes a very hands-on approach to all aspects of his character’s creative process. This includes selecting his entrance music, designing his gear and merchandise, and actively participating in the artistic process. Given his interest in art, Edge wants to remain involved in that aspect of the wrestling industry.
According to the former world champion, music is the most crucial component of his presentation. His most iconic entrance theme, Metalingus, by the band Alter Bridge, was a chance encounter. At a Metallica concert, the band’s guitarist, Mark Tremonti, played Edge some songs, and Edge asked if he could use his favorite as entrance music.
Edge believes that the energy his entrance music gives him is reciprocated to the audience. He further stated that he has been actively involved in shaping his character since the beginning of his career. To the point where, when he first joined WWE, many people questioned who he was.
“I’m very hands-on with all of the creative aspects of my character,” Edge said about his approach to his entrance music. “I always have been, probably to the point where, when I first came in, they’re like, ‘Who’s this kid?'”
Although Edge retired from wrestling in 2011 due to neck injuries, he made a triumphant comeback in 2020. Since his return, he has participated in over 25 matches, created a villainous faction, and added another successful Hell in a Cell bout to his resume. Edge plans to continue being actively involved in shaping his character’s storylines and presentation for the remainder of his wrestling career.
