Rey Mysterio, the legendary Lucha Libre wrestler, made an appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive show on Tuesday, where he dropped a bombshell announcement. The masked marvel revealed that he is open to putting his mask on the line in a match against none other than his own son, Dominik.
During the show, Mysterio teased the idea of a Lucha de Apuestas, where he would put his mask on the line against Dominik’s hair. “Maybe I put my mask on the line against his hair, which is some Lucha culture, and if I lose, I take my mask off and if he loses, he shaves his hair off. That might be interesting,” said the high-flying superstar.
When asked if Dominik would be willing to agree to such a match, Mysterio confidently replied, “He talks a lot of crap so why not back it up?”
Despite no concrete plans in place for the match, Mysterio vowed to pitch the idea to his son. “No, but I will pitch it out. I’ll challenge him, straight up,” he said.
Mysterio has a history of putting his mask on the line and emerging victorious. He has done it before, successfully retaining it against the likes of Mr. Condor, Rocco Valente, Tony Arce, El Bandido, Vulcano, and Misterioso even before he joined WCW. During his time with WCW, he put his mask on the line twice, with the first being a mask vs. title match against Eddie Guerrero at Halloween Havoc 97. Mysterio’s status as a masked wrestler remains unmatched, despite losing his mask at SuperBrawl IX after his team with Konnan was defeated by Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. His reputation as a master of the high-flying Lucha Libre style, coupled with his charismatic mask-wearing persona, has earned him a place in the annals of wrestling history. His mask has become an iconic symbol of his persona and his performances in the ring have cemented his place as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
Following his loss of the mask in WCW, Mysterio opted to continue wrestling without it until WWE’s first tour of Mexico after he joined the company in 2002. He obtained special permission from the Lucha Libre Council to put his mask back on for the occasion, and he went on to defend it successfully against Kane at No Mercy 2008 and Chris Jericho at The Bash in 2009. These victories were a testament to Mysterio’s skill and legacy as a masked wrestler.
It remains to be seen whether Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik will face off in a Lucha de Apuestas match, but one thing is for sure, if it does happen, it will be an unforgettable moment in the world of professional wrestling.
