Rey Mysterio is a true legend in the world of professional wrestling, and his impact on the industry cannot be overstated. Soon, he will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, a well-deserved honor for his contributions to the business. Surprisingly, it was Rey Mysterio’s son, Dominik Mysterio, who persuaded him to not retire back in 2019.
With over 30 years of dedication to the wrestling industry, Mysterio has earned immense respect from fans and peers alike. After an almost four-year hiatus from WWE, he made his return in 2018. Instead of being thrust into the main event scene, Mysterio was primarily involved in storylines with his son, Dominik, upon his return to WWE in 2018.
In a recent interview on the After The Bell podcast, Mysterio shared that he considered hanging up his boots and retiring back in 2019, when he was feuding with Samoa Joe. However, it was his son, Dominik, who convinced him to stay.
Mysterio shared, “As weird as it sounds, Dominik convinced me not to and told me to stay. I just felt like I was falling behind with all this young talent opening up a path… but I stayed and I committed to putting in the work and it’s been incredible ever since.”
Rey Mysterio’s remarkable career will be recognized on March 31st when he is inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Soon after, on April 1st at WrestleMania 39, he will go head to head with his son in a highly anticipated match. The feud is expected to continue beyond the event, making it intriguing to see how this father-son rivalry will unfold and what impact it will have on their legacies in the wrestling world.
