Gunther is close to breaking Honky Tonk Man’s record

WWE’s Intercontinental Championship is one of the most prestigious and coveted titles in the company’s history. Since its inception, many legendary wrestlers have held the belt, including the Honky Tonk Man, Mr. Perfect, and Randy Savage. In recent times, Imperium leader Gunther has been dominating the competition and has now become the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion since the Honky Tonk Man’s legendary reign.

According to reports from Fightful, Gunther has now held the championship for an impressive 281 days, surpassing Mr. Perfect’s 280-day reign as champion from November 1990 to August 1991. The fourth-longest single run with the championship, Gunther’s reign is the longest since the Honky Tonk Man’s record-setting 454-day reign that ran in 1987 and 1988. With just four days to surpass Greg Valentine’s 285-day reign in 1984 and 1985, Gunther is inching ever closer to cementing his name in Intercontinental Championship history.

At WrestleMania 39, Gunther is set to defend his title against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. It promises to be a thrilling encounter, as both McIntyre and Sheamus are top-tier competitors with impressive track records in the ring. Nonetheless, Gunther has proven himself to be a formidable champion and will be looking to retain his title and continue his reign of dominance. Fans of WWE will be eagerly watching to see if Gunther can overcome his challengers and cement his place in the pantheon of Intercontinental Championship greats.
