Dragon Lee, the former AAA star, made his long-awaited in-ring debut for WWE at an NXT house show on Saturday, March 11. The non-televised event occurred at the St. Petersburg Armory in St. Petersburg, Florida, where Lee squared off against Eddy Thorpe, a former NJPW Strong star, Karl Fredericks.
Dragon Lee’s signing with WWE was made official in December 2022, just after he and his brother Dralistico had triumphed over FTR to secure the AAA Tag Team Titles. However, due to Lee’s WWE contract, the brothers were forced to relinquish their hard-won belts. It’s worth noting that Lee’s other brother, Rush, is currently signed with All Elite Wrestling, adding an intriguing dynamic to the family’s wrestling connections.
Despite being only 23 years old, Dragon Lee has already achieved a great deal in his professional wrestling career. He first made waves by winning the CMLL World Lightweight Championship in 2015, and has since gone on to become a two-time ROH World Television Champion, a two-time ROH World Tag Team Champion, and a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. These accolades are a testament to Lee’s impressive skills and dedication to his craft.
His WWE contract is for three years, and he will see a pay increase each year, making him the highest-paid star on the “NXT” brand after former “NXT” Women’s Champion Mandy Rose was released. However, his WWE debut was stalled for a few months due to visa issues.
As noted, Lee’s WWE debut finally took place this past Tuesday at the “NXT” special event “Roadblock,” where he appeared in the crowd, waving to fans before the six-man tag team match featuring “NXT” Champion Bron Breakker, The Creed Brothers, Jinder Mahal, and Indus Sher.
Lee and WWE fans will eagerly anticipate his next in-ring appearance as he looks to establish himself as a top talent on the “NXT” roster.
