On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that the WWE is showing severe concern over the significant chants that Sami Zayn has been receiving from the passionate WWE Universe, particularly during Cody Rhodes’ promo alongside Paul Heyman.
The WWE strives to position Cody Rhodes as their top babyface in the lead-up to WrestleMania, but the overwhelming support for Zayn poses a challenge. Officials reportedly worry that Zayn’s popularity may overshadow the push they have planned for Rhodes.
It’s a tricky situation for the WWE, as they must balance the desire to showcase all their talented wrestlers while still building up their chosen stars. As the road to WrestleMania heats up, the organization must tread carefully to ensure that Rhodes and Zayn receive the attention they deserve.
“The stuff with Cody and Heyman – they (WWE) were very concerned about Sami chants, which is one of the reasons why they got Heyman out there in seconds.
“They did not want Cody in there by himself because they thought that – it didn’t happen – but they did everything in their power to make sure they kept that moving, they did not allow the audience a chance to start chanting or anything like that, it was just back-and-forth.
“It was designed to give the audience no chance to chant because of the feeling that if they did it would hurt Cody’s momentum.
“And perhaps it would, and then it could create that groundswell (for Zayn) which is exactly what they don’t want right now.”
As the next few weeks unfold, what fate holds for Sami Zayn in the WWE remains to be seen. The passionate fanbase has taken sides, but unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Zayn will get the coveted WrestleMania title match that so many are rooting for him to receive.
However, there’s still a glimmer of hope that Zayn could emerge victorious at SoFi Stadium, potentially walking out with a title around his waist. Alas, it won’t be the highly coveted Undisputed WWE Universal Title that fans are clamoring for Zayn to claim. Only time will tell how this plays out in the world of WWE.
